Accident Reports

M.G.L. Chapter 90, Section 26 requires a person who was operating a motor vehicle involved to complete the Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report form (www.mass.gov) in a crash in which:

any person was killed
any person was injured
there was damage in excess of $1,000 to any one vehicle or other property

Report with the Registrar within 5 days after such crash (unless the person is physically incapable of doing so due to incapacity).

You should not need to file a crash report if the crash occurred on a private road, driveway, parking lot or other private ways.

STEPS TO FOLLOW AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH

STEP: 1. Download and fill out the RMV Motor Vehicle Crash Report Form .
STEP: 2. Operator must send one copy of the crash report to the Blackstone Police Department, one copy to your insurance company and one copy to the RMV at the following address: Registry of Motor Vehicles Crash Records P.O. Box 55889 Boston, MA 02205-5889.
STEP: 3. To obtain a copy of the Police Report, please visit CRASHDOCS.ORG and provide your accident number (example of an Accident number: 25-18-AC )

*** Police reports are generally available on CRASHDOCS.org within 5 to 7 business days (Police Reports are FREE )

*** We will only release a copy of the Officer’s report AFTER the department has received the operators Motor Vehicle Crash Report Form.

Blackstone Police Department Commemorates National Police Week

National Police Week, which occurs this year between May 11 and 17, honors law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. It is a time to recognize and pay homage to the sacrifices made to keep communities safe and an opportunity to support the colleagues and families of officers who have given their lives.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported that since the first recorded police death in 1786, there have been over 24,000 police officers killed in the line of duty. With over 800,000 law enforcement officers currently serving in the United States, there are plenty of people to thank for protecting our communities.

During this week, please extend your appreciation to local police officers by thanking them for their duty, or show gratitude to those who lost their lives in service by attending a local memorial service.
