BLACKSTONE — Chief Gregory Gilmore reports that the Blackstone Police Department requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad today after receiving a report of possible military ordnances at a home.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., Blackstone Police and Fire responded to a home on Dawn Street after receiving information that possible military ordnances were found at the home.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and troopers assigned to the State Police Bomb Squad were immediately notified and responded to assess the situation further.
Following a subsequent investigation, the State Police Bomb Squad determined that most of the ordnances, which were military-grade training materials, were inert. A small number of items, such as flares, were not inert and will be removed from the home by the Bomb Squad and taken to a secluded area to be safely destroyed. The Bomb Squad will also take possession of the inert materials, which will be returned to the military.
There was no danger to the public at any point during the investigation. The scene was cleared at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Chief Gilmore wishes to thank the State Police Bomb Squad for its response and collaboration in ensuring the items were quickly and safely located and removed.
